Last week, Ark Workplace Risk hosted a landmark industry event at RSA House — and the ripple effects are already being felt across the sector.

In a feature by News on the Block, our event — BSA 2022 Update: Competence in the Built Environment — was spotlighted as a powerful moment of industry alignment. With hundreds of professionals in attendance and contributions from some of the most influential voices in property, compliance, and regulation, the message was clear: the time for action is now.

Shifting the competency conversation

Hosted at the prestigious RSA House, the event brought together property owners, property professionals, housing associations, managing agents, insurers, fire and structural safety experts, legal professionals, and key industry bodies, all united by a shared objective: to tackle the challenge of competence under the Building Safety Act 2022.

Keynote speaker Dame Judith Hackitt, Chair of the Industry Safety Steering Group, challenged the sector to stop asking what do we have to do and instead ask what’s the right thing to do, a sentiment echoed throughout the day.

From policy to practice

As featured in News on the Block, the event also marked a wider shift in the industry; a move beyond regulatory awareness toward organisational accountability, competence frameworks, and culture change.

Ark’s own Director of Regulatory, Technical and Technology, David Hills, called on organisations to go beyond minimum compliance and focus on measurable competence. He emphasised the importance of “building internal systems that not only meet the letter of the law, but live up to the spirit of it.”

Leading the way in Competence Frameworks

Ark is already working with property professionals and duty holders to develop bespoke competence frameworks aligned to both legal requirements and practical needs. Our work combines expert consultancy with our technology platform, QUOODA®, to embed competence into the DNA of an organisation, not just into documents.

Whether you're just starting your journey or looking to strengthen your internal systems, we're here to help you lead with confidence.
